The Mitchell Museum of the American Indian, Kendall College was founded in 1977 and has over 10,000 objects dating from the Paleo-Indian period through the present day. It is the only museum in the Chicago-area that focuses exclusively on the history, culture and arts of Native Americans. The permanent exhibitions depict the Native cultures of the Woodlands, Plains, Southwest, Northwest Coast and Arctic regions of North America, the temporary exhibit gallery has special thematic shows that change three times a year.
